Are you Aware of the Educational Funding that is Given for your Child?
EVERY U.S. PARENT should take a gander at this!! Public AND private/ homeschoolers!
I would like to take a look at the educational funding that is attached to our kids while they are enrolled in public school. I remember reading a bit about this early last year while researching for a school board speech that I was preparing. I was shocked to find that just over $14,000 per kid, per year is what they were getting in my area! My daughter was in a California school with around 750 kids pre-Plandemic. Do some maths... there is a very good reason they have compulsory school attendance laws. Some areas have a higher or lower enrollment rate, of course, so that will fluctuate. But 14,000 per kid per year is a nice chunk of money. Imagine what parents who want to make the jump (or already have) from public to private or home school could do with that money if it followed their child. A LOT of parents and educators have already been talking about this. The teachers’ unions reaaaaally don’t like it either!
Well, this exact proposal was set to get put on the 2022 ballot last year in -believe it or not- California and there were not enough signatures collected in time for them to vote on it. The good news is, they are trying again. I know how a lot of us feel about voting these days, but please spare me the voting stuff. I am well aware of how broken the system is, I don't drink the red or blue Kool-Aid, and I would dismantle the whole thing if I could. But this is not about politicians... this is something that affects where your money is going when it comes the education you want your child to receive.
If you already home or private school, you are getting hit twice. Once, when they take your taxes to fund their institutions, even though you no longer participate. Then you are hit again when you come out-of-pocket for the alternative education expenses on your own. This double-whammy is exactly why this issue is important. Parents who choose to opt out of the public school system are not being given the opportunity to have that money follow the child and they are expected to pay for it all on their own. It is a sacrifice many have been willing to make, but it really shouldn’t be necessary. However, the schools are not so keen on letting go of the money, as they are well aware that enrollment is dropping significantly, and they know what this public school exodus mean as far as the comfy funding they are used to receiving. However, they won’t be given much of a choice if we can make this happen.
As I had mentioned, the effort to get this on the 2024 ballot is taking place, and I urge anyone who can get involved or spread the word in these communities to do so. If you are a California local, I especially encourage you to lend a hand if you can help. I know we are all busy, trust me! But guys, this one is super important, and I know there are some pretty feral parents and freedom fighters out there who can kick some ass and help get this thing rolling! I won’t tell you to go vote for anyone, but I will encourage you to go vote to have the money they are going to take from you anyways at least follow your kids where you choose to put them to receive their education.
If you want more information on the efforts taking place, please visit the Californians for School Choice website: https://www.californiaschoolchoice.org/ If you aren’t in California, I encourage you to get with others and draft your own legislation! Let me know if you do so that I can share the great news!
Are you Aware of the Educational Funding that is Given for your Child?
A good friend of mine is a doctor with a child enrolled in a private school (I babysit the little girl, who is in kindergarten). As you know parents must receive a note from their doctors in California if their child is to miss school. Truancy laws are strict because no cold in school means no money for that institution. It becomes a big bother for my friend who constantly must write notes for her patients--wasting her time and the parents money! Doctors hate this California law!
