Time for me to write about something I discovered taking place in my own backyard. While I have never been particularly fond of R. Rex Parris, I had a bad gut feeling about him ever since he welcomed the Chinese-owned electric vehicle plant BYD to the city of Lancaster. Parris was first introduced to BYD officials by county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and his Chinese-born wife, Christine, a well-connected former actress. This was after Antonovich said he first met BYD executives at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in 2008 and brokered the meeting with Parris shortly after. Parris has been quoted remarking how much he envied the power wielded by officials in China… he even proposed a ‘birth tourism’ concept that would allow Chinese to give birth at Antelope Valley Hospital in order to give Chinese babies U.S. citizenship.
Parris also caught my attention when he was a keynote speaker in Tokyo, bragging about how the City of Lancaster will be the first hydrogen-powered city in the country (yes, you read that correctly)… he subsequently ushered in leaders from Toshiba with open arms back in February 2022 with the intention of “creating a more sustainable City and showing the world what is possible with green energy!” This was shortly after Toshiba came out with the Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell System for Toyota, appropriately dubbed the H2Rex… perhaps they named this after good ol Rexy??
When Toshiba was here in person, I was tipped off about this by a friend who works for the city and showed up for this in person, attempted to ask a few pertinent questions- including why masks were important for the little photo op seen below and then removed- and was subsequently ignored. Since then, I have had my eye on him, but admittedly did not do any deep digging. Until this week…
